In addition to my private practice work, I am also employed part-time working with burn survivors in a rehabilitation hospital. My counselling approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The premise of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or CBT) is that our thoughts (cognitions), behaviours, emotions/mood, and how we feel physically are all interconnected. As a result, any change, positive or negative, in any one of these areas, will impact the others. In CBT, the focus is on addressing problematic thoughts and behaviours, which will positively impact mood/emotions as well. I believe that developing a good rapport is key to any counselling relationship, and I try to allow clients to feel comfortable with me by providing a safe, non-judgemental, and supportive environment in which they can discuss the difficulties they are facing.
