As such addictions are an expression of our innate drive to seek happiness and fulfillment. My role as a therapist is to guide my clients on a path that will get them to their desired destination by: (a) learning skills for managing painful emotions, thoughts and memories; (b) developing flexibility in responding to life's challenges; (c) discovering what makes life truly satisfying and meaningful to them; and (d) developing strategies for building such a life. Recent exciting discoveries in neuroscience have given us a new understanding of the intricate connections between brain, mind and behaviour and have created the new science of personal transformation. As a therapist I draw on this knowledge to teach my clients skills and strategies for changing dysfunctional habits, modifying unhelpful character traits and building satisfying relationships. In essence, what drives addictive behaviors (to be happy and free of pain and suffering) can drive efforts to build a life worth living if one can only access the right tools for the task. Fortunately, science has now given us the tools and it is my role as a therapist to help clients find the ones they need to solve their unique dilemmas. Additional Information In addition to maintaining a busy private practice, I have worked for 15 years in a drug/alcohol treatment centre providing outpatient therapy to adolescents, adults and families of addicts. I also have expertise in the field of child and adolescent mental health having worked in treatment centers, which offer child and family counselling.
